Imported mainstream lager competes directly with local production on price and loses. What works commercially is what local brewing does not supply — genuine European origin, Belgian abbey and Trappist beers, German wheat beer, Czech pilsner, and Asian premium lager for the hospitality sector.

That shapes the shape of a shipment. South African requirements tend toward mixed containers with a wide brand spread and modest pallet counts per line, rather than the concentrated volume typical of West African lanes. Buyers are generally established importers with their own clearing and compliance capability.

Durban is the principal container port; Cape Town serves the Western Cape and Gqeberha the Eastern Cape. Nominate the discharge port on your inquiry, as inland distribution costs from each differ substantially.
