Beer Kegs in international trade

Keg supply is driven by on-trade demand — hotel groups, hospitality operators, cruise and travel retail — rather than by shelf retail. That changes the commercial shape of the enquiry: volumes per line are smaller, the coupler type has to match the destination dispense equipment, and cold-chain handling is more likely to be part of the specification.
Coupler compatibility is the single most common source of error in an international keg order. A keg fitting is not universal, and a load that arrives with the wrong coupler type cannot be dispensed. The fitting is confirmed against the destination before any keg quotation is issued.
One-way kegs avoid the return logistics that make steel kegs impractical over long distances, and are usually the right specification for export outside Europe. Returnable steel kegs remain viable for shorter intra-European movements where a return leg can be organised.
