About Stout in international trade

Guinness dominates the category internationally, and the distinction between its two principal specifications is the single most important thing to get right. Guinness Draught at around 4.2% ABV uses a nitrogen widget to reproduce the draught pour and sells into European and Western markets. Foreign Extra Stout at around 7.5% ABV was formulated to survive long shipping routes and is the version demanded in West Africa, the Caribbean and parts of South-East Asia.
An inquiry for "Guinness" without a specification cannot be quoted accurately: availability, production origin and landed cost differ substantially between them, and higher-strength stout attracts higher excise duty in most destinations. State the specification, and where your market requires it, the production origin.
