Singapore is a demanding destination in the best sense: buyers are experienced, the regulatory framework is clear and consistently applied, and there is genuine demand for European specialty beer, German wheat beer and Belgian abbey and Trappist ales alongside mainstream international lager.

One feature of the market drives product selection more than any other: excise duty is levied per litre of alcohol, so duty scales directly with ABV. A 9% Trappist ale therefore carries substantially more duty per litre than a 5% lager, and that difference — not the ex-works price — often determines whether a specialty line works commercially. Model landed cost by ABV before fixing an assortment, and confirm current rates with Singapore Customs rather than relying on precedent.
