Sourcing beer from Thailand
Singha, brewed by Boon Rawd since 1933, is the premium position — a fuller-bodied lager with a firmer bitterness than most South-East Asian beers. Chang, from Thai Beverage, is the volume leader in Thailand and sits below Singha on price in most export markets. Buyers supplying Thai restaurant groups almost always take both, because the two brands are not interchangeable in the eyes of the end customer.
For European and African buyers the important commercial point is that Thai beer does not have to come from Thailand. Importer stock is held in the Netherlands and Germany, which means Thai lines can be consolidated into a container alongside European brands on normal lead times rather than waiting on a direct sailing from Laem Chabang. Direct-origin programmes are possible but run on longer lead times and larger minimum volumes. Note also that Chang’s current export specification is 5.0% ABV; older stock at higher strength is no longer the standard offer, so confirm the specification if your market has a fixed labelling requirement.
